Weekly Coffee for Del Oro Staff

It started with a simple idea to bring staff together for coffee each week.  We wanted to engender a sense of staff positivity to start the day, develop connections between staff members, and have staff visible out on campus so students see us interacting with one another.  Working with our food service team, we were able to make it excellent and sustainable (with Coffee, Tea, and Hot Chocolate).

Having an excuse to send a fun email each week to staff reminding them about the Coffee and spreading some positivity was an added bonus.

Character Pillars

I organized a team in the Spring, Summer, and Fall of 2022 to reenvision the Del Oro Character Pillars.  The primary goal was to define who we are and who we want to be as a unique Del Oro Community.  After facilitating discussions with our admin team, leadership team, and staff, we settled on five new pillars that have been helpful as we frame conversations with staff, students, and parents.

Here is a bit of the process we used for building consensus on these five new Pillars.

Classroom Visits

One of my favorite elements of my job is getting to be in classrooms and watching the magic happen with teaching and learning.  I commit to visiting every class, every term, so that I get to see students and teachers in their element often.  When I visit, I try to join in on any activities if possible, I check in with a few students, and I typically follow up with the teacher later to share some observations.
